But, if your travel budget condemns you to fly with the unwashed masses, then you should at least make yourself as comfortable as you can back there in cattle car section. One way of doing that is by booking one of the "good" seats when you purchase your ticket. And this website should help in that regard.
I don't fly anymore and I don't miss it, one bit.

I disagree with their chart. They show the front seats just short of the bulkhead as "good seats". There is no seat in front of you which your feet can fit under (less leg room), and there is no pull down tray. Trays will be pull up out of the arm, which means you cannot raise the arm out of the way. The one time I rode in these forward seats was the most uncomfortable ride I ever had. I always try for the seat at the emergency exit row because they are roomier, and I'm tall with long legs.
I used to do that also when I'd fly 747s, it was very roomy and like you I'm a bit of a highpockets. The feller I usually flew with was (and still is as far as I know, if he's still alive) a heavy drinker and he always got a seat close to the galley so he could get quick refills.
