Sing it, Slim

I'm guessing the timeframe is late 70s, maybe early 80s and he's older and a bit thinner on the top, plus his voice cracks a little on those high notes. But, I used to hear this on the stereo when visiting the ex in-laws. At the time I thought it was kind of hokey country stuff. But now that I've heard it again I think the man has a pretty darned good voice. In fact, a really good voice.

So, a little bit of country nostalgia for you.

Did not know Slim was from Tampa. I can ontake a limited amount of the falsetto stuff. Like Joe Ely, who I love, will get off on some Tex-Mex hily gh pitched bender and I gotta hit the skip button before too long.

In high school I was looked at askance becase I found Led Zep and especially Rush pretty irritating to listen to. I wanted to like them, but they sang like mannish girls.

I have since come to appreciate more of Zeppelin's stuff. Mostly.

Also, something I find amusing is that I did not like Styx very much, but went to see them many times. Why? Because my friends loved them. I much rather enjoyed KISS and Blue Oyster Cult. And, of course, Jerry Lee Lewis. Yeah, I'm a real music slut.

Sorry. I still don't know why doing an edit to a comment before you post it makes it garble like that.

The line above should read:

Well hell... don't look like it'll ever come out right. I'll just assume you can decipher what I am trying to say.

I know. You saw 3 comments already and thought you had become wildly popular. Sorry.

Yes, durnit. I saw the 3 comments and thought it might be time to load the page with Google ads, sit back and watch the 1000s of $$ roll in. Just like they advertise on TV about making all that easy money out here on this internet thingy. I just wonder if it might not be some scam to part the innocents from the money.

Re Slimbo, I found it interesting also that Slim had the longest running No 1 song in the U.K. for 34 years or sumtin' like that. This song right here, in fact.

Like I said I never really paid much attention to him and then somehow ran into him out here on the internet last week. Got curious and played a couple YouTubes of his singing and darned if now I don't realize that he one heck of singer. Not to everyone's taste, but still he can sing. Plus, it appears he made a fortune over the years, especially in Europe.

I ran his fan club here in the U.S. for 23 years. He's has recorded 541 songs. I have many favorites including "Broken Wings" and "Keeper of the Keys." For Slim Whitman merchandise google Slim Whitman Collectors International.

Thanks, Flash, I'll check him out some more. Like I said I was late coming to appreciate Slim's voice and style. In hindsight, he's really good - an excellent singer, musician and entertainer.

Apologies to you, Slim, for taking so long to become a fan.
