Ying and Yang

From today's Washington Times, by Audrey Hudson (edited by AGT for brevity)

The Bush administration and Congress yesterday split on whether the U.S. detention camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, should be relocated to a different facility.

Vice President Cheney says there is "no plan to close" the Guantanamo center but that President Bush is reviewing the matter "on a continuous basis." Also, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld says no one is considering closing the facility.

However, Rep. Duncan Hunter, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, says the White House is split, with some persons, whom he did not name, advising a politically motivated shutdown of the Guantanamo facility.

"Some members of the White House have concluded that the legend is different than the fact. And when that's the case, you go with the legend that somehow Guantanamo has been a place of abuse. And you close it down, and you shorten the stories.

From the political standpoint - Yes! Close it down and move the prisoners elsewhere. The 2006 elections are coming up and we don't need the "abuse" hassle from the press, as some voters may buy it.

From my Scots-Irish ancestry - No way! Gitmo is it and Gitmo is gonna be it until this war is over. And you know what else? If you don't like it? **** off!

Gee, I'm 1/4 Scots-Irish - and I am right with you on the **** off!

No friggin' way we should shut it down just because of the whole blown out of proportion MSM crap.

If the holding of these terrorists is righteous (and I happen to think it is), then we Don't Want Them on US mainland soil en masse.

I find the whole story ridiculous, given the incredibly humane treatment those interred are receiving, and the way we are bending over backwards to 'meet their needs'.
