It's DIY in this part of the Commonwealth

The Availability of Sweet Tea in Virginia as a Representation of the Mason-Dixon Line.

I haven't spent that much time in southern or southwest Virginia, but have in Alabama and Louisiana. There, unless you told the waitress different, it was sweet tea she brought to your table. That took some getting used to as here in northeastern Kentucky you sweeten your own.

Here in the south central part of the commonwealth they always offer you the choice. Unless I know the restaurant I order unsweetened and add my own sugar. A lot of restaurants seem to think tea flavored syrup an appropriate beverage. It's a wonder diabetes isn't the major health risk around here.

Dittos on that one. I'm with you on applying condiments is my task, not the restaurant staff.
