Our ancestors had a different name for it

In the late 1800s, they called it snake oil.

That gadget ranks right up there with this particular wonder worker. Actually, you want a smooth airflow in the air intake, not a turbulent one. Anything that causes turbulence disrupts the airflow, slowing it down and decreasing efficiency. Think about it.

NOW you tell me, after I've shelled out all that money for these. I suppose next you're going to tell me the magnets on my fuel line don't help either.

Fish, you sound like a man with J.C. Whitney on speed dial?

AGT, that's funny. I always loved looking through that magazine, but don't remember ever buying any of their gadgets.

Well, I have purchased from ol' J.C. over the years, Fish. None of the gadgets, but in the late 80s, when I had the misfortune of owning two 1973 Super Beetles I spent a lot of time leafing through the J.C. Whitney catalog and a lot of time at the counter of this establishment.

I was actually pretty darned fortunate to have that parts store a 45 minute drive from my front door. They have tons of parts and tons of VW aircooled knowledge. They saved my derriere a couple of times.
