Merry Christmas in small town USA

Yesterday at 12:15, Christmas Eve, a Sunday, I got a phone call from the counter lady at our local Post Office. We had a package and she thought it might be a Christmas present and did I want to come over and pick it up? Just knock on the door and she'd open up for me.

No, she's not a relative, neighbor, or anything like that. We're just boxholders like the other 1100 or so residents of the town. After living and working in the Dayton, Ohio area for 20 plus years, that sort of small town helpfulness and consideration just amazes me.

I don't miss the big city one bit.
